The Divine Liturgy is a special iconography with a lot of effort and prayer.
The Orthodox Church teaches us the truth:
1) The cross sacrifice of Jesus Christ, which took place once on Golgotha, continues to this day without interruption, both here on Earth during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist by the priests in our temples, and in Heaven, during the celebration by Himself the Christ of the corresponding Heavenly Divine Liturgy.
2) In the terrestrial Divine Liturgy, Jesus Christ himself is truly and essentially (essentially) present in the types of bread and wine of the Holy Eucharist, firstly to make a real and bloodless representation of His sacrifice on the cross, and secondly so that the believers and be united with Him.
3) The Divine Liturgy which the Lord performs invisibly here on earth through the priest, is performed by Himself in parallel and at the same time in Heaven as the Great High Priest.
The Orthodox Church living this certain and invisible presence of the Great High Priest Christ, both in the earthly Divine Liturgy and in the heavenly one, simplifies it (His double invisible presence) and makes it visible to the faithful with three symbolic Eucharistic depictions, which are:
a) The Society of the Apostles.
b) The Liturgy of the Church Fathers
c) The Heavenly Liturgy.
With reference to the Heavenly Liturgy, we note that it is inspired by the Cherubim Hymn, is rendered figuratively with the depiction of the Great Entry, and is found with (in) several variations.
